An Economic Conspiracy Theory

I read an article a few months ago saying that something like 80% of Fortune 500 CEO's said that their companies were simply not going to start hiring any time soon.
In thinking about all of the ways the conservatives/republicans are trying to destroy Obama's presidency, could it be possible that they have teamed up with Big Business in an attempt to wreck the economy during his term?
Think about it. The fastest way to lose a presidency is to have a stagnant economy (ask George Bush I about this). So if there was a means of keeping the economy down for long enough, Obama would end up being tied to it, with the ultimate result that Americans would see the bad economy as his fault. Thus, in '12 he would be voted out of office.
Now how do you keep an economy down? Well high unemployment will do it real fast. The fewer people who work, the less money that will be spent, the more of a hit the economy takes.
So here's the theory - conservatives told Big Business to hold off on hiring until after the next presidential election. With a conservative in the WH, rules will be tweaked and regulations will be relaxed allowing these industries to reap massive profits.
Seeing that profit to business is like crack to a coke user, they probably jumped at it.
I guess the real question is - would conservatives really go that low to destroy Obama? Sadly, I think they would.
